Windows 11 Version 24H2 Released: The 2024 Feature Update

Windows 11, version 24H2 became generally available on October 1, 2024, as that year's annual feature update. Beyond the consumer feature update, it carried extra significance as the base for the Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024 edition, the long-term servicing release for specialised devices.

The annual feature update

Windows 11 delivers one feature update per year, in the second half of the calendar year. Version 24H2 was the 2024 release in that cadence. Feature updates bundle the year's platform changes and reset the support window, while monthly cumulative updates continue to deliver security fixes on the second Tuesday of each month.

Support windows

Version 24H2 came with the standard Windows 11 support terms: 24 months for Home, Pro, Pro for Workstations and Pro Education, and 36 months for Enterprise and Education editions. That difference reflects the longer validation and deployment cycles common in managed environments.

A base for LTSC

Microsoft also used the 24H2 platform as the foundation for Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024 and IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024. Long-Term Servicing Channel editions are intended for devices that should change as little as possible, such as medical equipment or industrial controllers, and they receive a much longer fixed support window than the annual consumer releases. The IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 edition in particular carries support extending many years beyond the consumer feature updates.

Why it mattered

For everyday users, 24H2 was the routine yearly update that keeps a device current and supported. For organisations, its role as the LTSC base made it a notable reference point for long-lived deployments that need years of stability rather than annual change.
