OBS Studio 29 arrives
OBS Studio 29.0 was released on January 8, 2023. Following the large 28.0 release, it concentrated on broadening encoder support and adding audio processing filters, alongside a raft of tweaks and bug fixes.
Broader AV1 and HEVC support
The release added support for the AMD AV1 encoder on RX 7000 series GPUs and the Intel AV1 encoder on Arc GPUs on Windows, plus the Intel HEVC encoder on Windows. On macOS it added native HEVC and ProRes encoders, including P010 and HDR, extending OBS's growing hardware-encoder coverage across vendors.
New audio filters
OBS 29 added two new audio filters: an upward compressor, which raises the level of quiet audio rather than only taming loud peaks, and a 3-band equalizer. It also improved the NVIDIA video and audio filters with a mask refresh slider and temporal processing for better-quality masking.
Outputs and tweaks
The release added encryption and authentication for SRT and RIST outputs, updated obs-websocket to 5.1.0 with new stream reconnect events, and added update channels on Windows for opting into beta and release-candidate builds. It also raised the Replay Buffer's memory limit to 75% of installed RAM instead of a fixed 8GB and added macOS Desk View support.
